Three interconnecting walking loops run out from the visitor centre — the short red loop takes about 30 minutes and holds most of the headline features, while the full 3 km circuit down to Lake Ngakoro takes roughly 75 minutes at an unhurried pace. You walk it yourself, at your own speed, with a map available in eleven languages.
Admission also covers the Lady Knox Geyser presentation, which happens once a day at 10:15 am at a separate car park a short drive back up Waiotapu Loop Road. The geyser is induced with a surfactant rather than left to its own schedule, which is why the time is exact — and why arriving at 10:30 means you have missed it.
