The Wai-O-Tapu entry ticket is sold by Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland itself, not resold by a tour company. Full-day admission, all three walking loops, the 10:15am Lady Knox Geyser presentation, free parking, and a map in eleven languages. At $28 it costs roughly a quarter of the cheapest guided option, and the drive is 31 km of straightforward State Highway 5.

No car, staying in Rotorua — the half-day tour, from $107
The half-day tour leaves the Rotorua i-SITE on Fenton Street, covers the geyser and the park with entry included, adds the mud pool and a Lake Rotorua stop, and has you back in town by early afternoon. Four hours total. It is the shortest and cheapest way to reach Wai-O-Tapu without driving.

You want a guide walking with you — the eco-thermal morning, from $110
This is the one genuine differentiator on the list. The Wai-O-Tapu and Waimangu eco-thermal morning tour includes roughly an hour of guided walking inside Wai-O-Tapu, then continues to Waimangu Volcanic Valley — a forested rift valley created by the 1886 Mount Tarawera eruption, with Frying Pan Lake and the vivid blue Inferno Crater. Both admissions are included, the group is small, and it costs $3 more than the half-day tour that guides neither.

One day, everything — three parks, from $201
The Wai-O-Tapu, Waimangu and Te Puia full-day tour adds Te Puia in the afternoon, capped at fifteen guests, with admission to all three parks inside the price. It is the only option here where you see both an induced geyser (Lady Knox, 10:15am) and a natural one (Pohutu at Te Puia, which erupts on its own several times an hour) in the same day. Eight hours. Know before you book
The Lady Knox Geyser runs once a day, at 10:15am, at a car park that is not the main entrance. Any option that has you arriving after about 10:00am will not include it. Auckland departures rarely make it. See the Lady Knox Geyser guide.

“Guided tour” usually means guided transport. On most of these, the walk through the park itself is self-guided. Only the eco-thermal morning and the three-park full-day tour put a guide on the loops with you.
